Patent Applications of Dalian to Surpass 10,000 This Year

From Dalian Daily, yesterday the journalist learned from the Bureau of Science and Technology that Dalian had always been ranking the first among cities in Northeast China in respect of the number of patent applications since Dalian was approved to set up a national IPR demonstration city in June, 2007. The patent application number of this year is expected to surpass 10,000 in Dalian, of which invention patent applications will amount to over 2,000.

By 2008, Dalian had remained in the first place among cities in Northeast China in terms of the number of patent applications for five straight years. Meanwhile, Dalian also improved the structure of patent applications; in 2008, the invention patent applications and practical new patent applications counted for 75% of the total applications----the proportion took the fourth place among sub-provincial cities with 11 percentage points over the average level of sub-provincial cities and 17 percentage points over the national average level.

Excellent patents emerged and often won national major prizes. Only in 2007 and 2008, 17 patents of Dalian attained key national awards, of which there was the golden prize for Chinese patents and the “first prize of national technological inventions”. Major enterprises and public agencies regarded IPR as a sharp weapon for seizing the commanding height of markets. 11,000 bearings of multi-specifications and over 400 constant velocity universal joints of Dalian Bearing Goup Co., Ltd obtained intellectual property rights and the Group entered international markets with all these, which put an end to the monopoly history of foreign bearing industry. DHI•DCW Group Co., Ltd set up a complete and specialized platform for patent information and launched the one-vote down system of patent retrieval with the assistance of the platform in the process of new products development. The platform served as a guarantee for independent innovation products to obtain independent intellectual property rights. Dalian Luming Group has applied for 135 foreign and domestic patents by now, of which 7 patents won national patent licensing, and Luming Group has become one of the most powerful phoelectron enterprises.

While building the large and effective “Dalian Patent Database”, Dalian also achieved great accomplishments on other aspects of the development of IPR undertakings---- Dalian boasts 32,000 registered trademarks, 6 geographical indications, 21 well-known trademarks, 395 famous brands and more than 10,000 registered copyrights and literary property rights.
