Symposium on the Recommendation of 2010 National Science & Technology Awards in Dalian

On the morning of June 24, the Symposium on the Recommendation of 2010 National Science & Technology Awards was held in Dalian. Leaders from the office of work of National Science & Technology Awards, Liaoning Provincial Department of Science & Technology, and Dalian Municipal Bureau of Science & Technology were present the conference, and units concerned dispatched their representatives for attendance.
Before the discussion, Mrs. Liu Xiaoying, director of Dalian Municipal Bureau of Science & Technology talked about three points on the award work in Dalian over the past years: firstly, it inspires the passion of science workers in Dalian for innovation; secondly, it guides and supports the cultivation of strategically emerging industries; thirdly, it stimulates the core competitiveness of IPR.
While summarizing the innovation work, deputy director of Liaoning Provincial Department of Science & Technology Meng Qinghai said, No.1, with innovation element drive as the breakthrough, our province has established a specialty industry base; No.2, we have carried out a lot of key science & technology programs; No.3, we have promulgated a series of polices to accelerate the transformation of science & technology fruits; No.4, we should positively explore the science & technology work in new times. On the basis of above four-aspect support, our province has turned on a fresh look in terms of science & technology work.
Deputy director with the office of the National Science & Technology Awards Hu Xiaojun made a key note speech. He listed a series of problems existing in the past award recommendations, for example, the boundary for the advancement awards and the invention awards is too vague, the award winners are of age, how to inspire more young people to grab the awards. He also pointed out that a new round of adjustment for the rules of the awards is under way this year. He hoped that all participants can forward their suggestions, so that the awards can be put into place in real terms for the days to come and better promote independent innovations and science & technology advancements.
